WHAT'S THE ALLEY'S TASTY TALE?
Explore The Alley's Flavorful History & Taste Its Secrets
Step into The Alley Cantina, where history dances with excitement! Originally crafted by the ingenious Pueblo Indians in the 16th century, our building brims with tales of resilience and adventure.
Despite experiencing a few rough patches, our building survived and offered sanctuary along the Chihuahua Trail during the Spanish government's rule from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
In 1846, the purpose of our building switched gears and became the office of Mr. Charles Bent, New Mexico's very first US Territorial Governor.
Although Governor Bent's story took a tragic turn, our building remained standing, passing down its legacy through the ages until 1944, when it transformed into the beloved "El Patio" restaurant. Fast forward to 1997, and voila! The Alley Cantina emerged, beckoning guests to relish its vibrant history while enjoying delicious food and refreshing drinks.
Is the Entire Building Seriously Pushing Four Centuries?
Nope, our main room's a spring chicken compared to the rest! It's only about 90 years young, but there are some ancient gems, too!
The South wall of our kitchen, the East wall and even our bathrooms are the real time travelers, clocking in at over 400 years! These sturdy walls are the OG survivors of ancient Taos history.
Picture yourself grabbing a drink at our bar, surrounded by centuries-old whispers and stories. Hurry by The Alley Cantina and grab a bite and a drink, where every corner holds a piece of Taos' colorful past!
10s across the board. The service was wonderful, kind and fast. Drinks were delicious and the food was AMAZING! I’m used to authentic Mexican food and have never tried New Mexican food. I can honestly say it was spectacular. My husband is a picky eater and he really enjoyed his hamburger. Everyone really liked their food and finished almost all of it. Bonus points for the beautiful atmosphere and historic setting.
